CE - SAP Signal Range

Due to the nature of wireless signals, the effective range of the Secure Access Point will vary depending on the location's layout. Obstructions including walls, ceramic tiles, metal structures, heavy equipment, other signal producing devices, etc. can alter the distance that equipment can effectively connect. To optimize the chance of a strong connection, please consider the following.

  • Though the effective range will vary, we rarely see any signal issues when the SAP is located within 45 feet of the equipment. In test scenarios, connection at 84 feet has been demonstrated.

  • Please locate the SAP outside of any locked cabinet when practical.

  • Avoid placing the SAP behind metal, cement, and/or cinderblock walls relative to the equipment.

  • Position the SAP as close as possible to the equipment.

  • Ideally, the SAP would be near the center of the facility to connect equipment in potential future installations.

  • When possible, avoid placing the SAP in a place where it can be easily unplugged or knocked down.

  • When installing, please double check that the Ethernet cord is attached to the port furthest from the power cord on the back of the SAP.

A quick way to test signal range is to attempt to connect to the SAP on your phone or laptop.

  1. Go into your device’s network settings.

  2. Look for an area to add/type in a network name. The SAP’s network is hidden and will not display in an ordinary network scan.

  3. For the SSID enter “SiteSageSAP”. The password is “openSiteSage”. These values are case sensitive.

  4. If the signal range is good, you should get a message similar to “connected without internet”.

  5. The SAP will not permit cellphones, laptops, or other types of devices that are not relevant to Open Kitchen to connect to the internet. If you’re able to connect to the network, that alone should indicate that you are within signal range. Loss of connectivity may still occur if signal strength is weak.
