Implications of a Security Compromise Event
Equipment Compromised:
If equipment supports bi-directional flow of data, a malicious agent could change settings, potentially causing problems with the equipment’s functionality
Could glean insights on the business based on data from the equipment
If using Virtual ConnectWare, could hack OS on equipment controller, introducing a bot on the controller that could be used for malicious intent on the customer network or elsewhere on the web (equivalent to a PC being hacked with a bot)
Recourse: disable Open Kitchen on equipment until the issue is resolved
Open Kitchen Compromised:
Denial-of-service attack on Open Kitchen would bring down Open Kitchen service, preventing user access
Could get insights on customers’ business from equipment-related data
Could remotely change equipment settings for equipment that supports bi-directional communication
Recourse: disable Open Kitchen on equipment until the issue is resolved
