Equipment Interface

The equipment can interface with the ConnectWare Dock either by USB-A or a 10 pin Molex connector.

SERIAL/POWER Connector mates with Molex receptacle 0430251008 or similar with tin plated contacts.

Power Requirements

ConnectWare2 requires a minimum 1W DC power supply. It can be powered either by

• USB @ 5V

• 5V DC power supply on Molex connector pin 1 with pin 5 as ground reference

• ConnectWare1 (950-000033)

  • 5-12V DC power supply on pin 6 with pin 5 as ground reference

• ConnectWare2 (950-000048)

  • 5-24V DC power supply on pin 6 with pin 5 as ground reference

Equipment Serial Interfaces

ConnectWare supports four different serial interfaces. A discovery routine is used by ConnectWare to detect the interface on first power up or after a factory reset. Standard baud rates between 9600 and 230400 are accepted. 115200 is recommended for normal telemetry. Higher baud rates can be achieved for large file transfer. See the API for more information.

The serial interface always uses no parity bits, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit; N81.

USB Serial Interface

ConnectWare acts as a USB 2.0 device only. Use a USB-A cable.

TIA/EIA RS-232 Serial Interface

ConnectWare2 supports standard RS-232 full duplex communication on Molex connector pins 7 and 8 with pin 5 used as a reference.

TIA/EIA RS-485 Serial Interface

ConnectWare2 supports standard RS-485 half duplex communication on Molex connector pins 2 and 3. RS-485 is a differential signal and requires no ground reference. ConnectWare is host. The pins 2 and 3 are internally terminated by 120Ω in the ConnectWare Module. A maximum of 230400 baud is possible.

TIA/EIA RS-562 TTL Serial Interface

ConnectWare2 supports standard RS-562 full duplex communication on Molex connector pins 9 and 10 with pin 5 used as a reference. The interface is 3.3V and 5V compatible, line buffered and non-inverting.

USB ID

ConnectWare is only implemented as a USB device. Molex connector pin 4 must be kept floating. Do not place a jumper or connect to the 2-pin header on the back of the dock. Doing so will cause the module not to bootup. USB Host mode is not implemented in firmware.
