Instructions for installing the Gateway, Thermostats and remote temp sensors.
🪛 Gateway Installation
1. Locate the network room or manager’s office. Install the mounting plate in location with access to power and network. Preferably having the top of the gateway pointing towards the location of where the other EMS equipment will be. Mount gateway to plate with connectors to the right and lights to the left (Putting the power port and Ethernet port on top). Plug in the power cord into the wall outlet then plug the cat 5 cable provided into the designated port on the switch. Insert the CAT-5 patch cord into the ethernet port and then install the power cord into the gateway.
Gateway will have all lights blinking then Link light will flash red/orange and then the middle light will be green.
Open installer app (Instruction in prior to install section) and press the green button “+ add Device”.
You will select the gateway and tap green “continue” button. On this page you can enter the middle five numbers in the box labeled “center digits” and the last four in box labeled “last 4 digits
Then tap on the button that says “Name” and enter “Gateway <center number>” and tap on the Green “Add to location” button.
You should now see gateway under the cloud symbol with a green plus sign in front and a black line to the gateway, if the line is red with a “/” you will need to trouble shoot the gateway.
Take photos of the gateway placement and port connected.

🪛 SmartStat Thermostat Installation
Need to confirm that each thermostat and HVAC unit is working for both Heating and cooling (if they have both)
Need to change the temps to trigger Cooling and Heating.
Use temp gun to confirm that temps at supply vent to show the units are producing cooling and heating.
Confirm the thermostats Mechanical settings.
Confirm if there are or at not remote sensors in settings.
Remove the front of the stat once confirming that unit is working, and mechanical settings are noted and take pictures of existing wiring.
Disconnect each existing thermostat one at a time and connect the SmartStat thermostat.
Install back plate of new thermostat. Confirming with the picture taken that the wires are landed correctly. (Note Heat pump change over on our stats is W2)
Once back plate in place return to the install app.
Tap on “add device” and select thermostat then scan QR code on the back of the thermostat or enter serial number.
Enter Thermostat label in the “Zone/RTU” box RTU-(#) <Area covered> (EX: RTU-1 Front Sales)
Install front for thermostat on the back plate.
Ensure that the thermostat powers up.
Then program mechanical settings thru the app
- 📲 Include specific labeling like RTU-1 Front or something that matches customer naming conventions
Make sure Mechanical settings are set the same as the old stat.
Test each thermostat.
- 🌡️ Use temperature gun to verify heat working, cooling working at each
- 📸 Record measurements and take photos
- 📝 Label each thermostat with provided sticker
Note if remote sensors are in use
🪛 Remote Sensors
This part of the install typically requires a tall ladder or a manual/powered man lift
Locate ductworks, specifically which ducts are closest to the supply
- 🚨 If there are hard ceilings - go to alternate solutions
Run Cat5e (ethernet cable) at ceiling height along ductwork
- All Cat5e runs must homerun to either gateway or wireless sensor pod
Connect temperature lead to Cat5e
- 📝 Label temperature sensor with rooftop unit name using provided sticker
Insert into ductwork, ensuring metal lead does not touch the exterior of ductwork
- Ensure that sensor is all the way into the duct and tip is not in contact with the metal duct
Document each temperature sensor location with photos in the Installation app
- 📸 Close up photo should capture the label and wide angle should capture the location
Locate existing remote sensors, swap with provide 10K Ohm thermistors
- 📲 Verify connect of remote sensors at the thermostat and in mobile app
- 🌡️ Verify with heat gun that temperatures match what is record in app
Hard ceiling Option 1 - access rooftop units via rooftop
Install wireless temperature module
attached temperature leads
